Portland Opera's 2001-2002 Season Sponsors

Portland Opera is pleased to announce that Fred Meyer is the overtitle sponsor for the company’s 2001-2002 opera series. To celebrate the partnership, a special forty-by-forty banner will hang from the side of Keller Auditorium, listing the season lineup and displaying Portland Opera’s new logo with the phrase "proudly presented by Fred Meyer."

Last season, the grocery chain sponsored Portland Opera’s Best of Broadway series. They renewed their support this season, and shifted the focus to opera. "Fred Meyer views this sponsorship as a way to introduce more people to opera by helping to keep tickets affordable," said Mary Loftin, Corporate Director of Community Relations.

Because ticket prices cover only about half of the cost of presenting an opera, sponsorship dollars go a long way toward helping Portland Opera defray expenses, keeping opera accessible in the community.

"We’re very grateful to have Fred Meyer’s support for the second season in a row," said Robert Bailey, general director of Portland Opera. "We’re fortunate to have a partner that shares our belief that the arts are a vital part of our community."

Portland Opera’s 2001-2002 "Season of Infinite Journeys" includes Verdi’s La traviata, Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers, Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and two American operas: The Consul by Gian Carlo Menotti and Candide by Leonard Bernstein.
